APRIL 28 MEAT BINGO AT VFW: At Lempke-Blackwell VFW Post 7573, 35011 23 Mile, at 2 p.m., the games cost $1 a stick, during five rounds, with three winners.

APRIL 30 FIREKEEPERS CASINO TRIP: Call Shirley at 586-531-1934 to reserve a seat on the motor coach, to travel to Battle Creek for the day. Be at the Lowes parking lot, 27900 23Mile, Chesterfield, by 7:45 a.m. for an 8 a.m. departure. The fee is $50 a person, which includes transportation, driver’s tip, raffles, movie, small snack and bottled water. Arrival back home is around 7:30 p.m.

BROWN BAG BOUTIQUE SALE MAY 4: Benefiting from the sale will be Turning Point. Stop by First Congregational Church, 36336 Alfred, corner of base, in Our Town, during the hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., to find gently used women’s clothing, purses and accessories. Fill a bag at $10 a bag.

MAY 4 USED BOOK GIVEAWAY: MacDonald Public Library. Main and Bedford, in Our Town, will greet readers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to be select books and, if wishing, to give a monetary donation. Donations will support special events and for items for new programs to be initiated. The event on May 4 is under the leadership of Friends of MacDonald Public Library. IRA TOWNSHIP BICYCLE RIDER EVENT MAY 4: An Ira Bicycle Safety event, at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot, 7085 Meldrum. Children should bring bikes for an inspection. For fun, the youngsters can manage an obstacle course with their bike. Given to participants will be free helmets and safety booklets and other SEMCO safety items. Sponsor of the event is Nickel & Saph Insurance Agency. Al Lauland will be available.

IRA TOWNSHIP ADULT EVENT MAY 4: Perennial and Seed Exchange at 10 a.m. in the parking lot, 7085 Meldrum. Bring plants and seeds and exchange them with gardeners. Questions will be answered and tips will be shared by vendors.

LET’S EAT RIBS MAY 4: VFW Post 7573, 35011 23 Mile, is hosting dinner of a half slab of ribs, baked potato, coleslaw, roll and dessert that evening. At $15 a person, advanced tickets are advised by calling the Cove, 586-725-7100 or stopping by to the Cove to purchase tickets, during business hours.

MAY 11 CLAY DAY EVENT: It will be the 202th birthday of the township. Located at 4710 Pointe Tremble, the celebration will be taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Exhibits, Nation American Indian Pow Wow from noon to 4 p.m., vendors, food concessions, and bicentennial T-shirts and collection coins. Be there and celebrate with Clay Township.

MOTHER’S DAY BREAKFAST: Sunday, May 12, at VFW Post 7573, 35011 23 Mile, from 8 to 11 a.m., enjoy a breakfast of eggs and omelets to order, scrambled eggs, French toast, homemade gravy, biscuits, sausage, bacon and potatoes. The fee is a $10 minimum for adults and $2 for children ages 10 and younger. World War II veterans eat free. Note: This will be the last monthly breakfast until September.

FITNESS PROGRAM NEWS: Starting on Tuesday, May 13, and Mondays, at 6:15 a.m. and Thursdays, at 6:15 p.m., a full body fitness program will go through the fall season, outdoors, in the Ira Township Park, corner of Short Cut and Meldrum. Preregister at the Ira Township Office, 7085 Meldrum, for a fee of $10 a class or $50. A drop-in fee is $15. No experience is necessary. Strengthen muscle groups, including cardio and core exercises. MAY 17 STEAK-OUT: VFW Post 7573, 35011 23 Mile, will fire up the outside grill so that guests may “cook” a New York strip steak. Eating indoors, add a baked potato, salad, roll and dessert. The fee is $18 a person. Garrett Veal will entertain during the meal.

“ROCKIN’ TRIBUTE” MAY 17: Enjoy entertainment provided by Donny Rod (Rod Stewert) and Elvis Kelly (Elvis Presley). At VFW Post 7573, 35011 23 Mile, at 6 p.m., join co-hosts, the Selfridge Chesterfield Lions Club and the American Business Women’s Association Suburban Connection Charter Chapter. Proceeds will support scholarships, grants and community service projects. Cash bar. Concessions for purchase. Gift basket raffles, 50/50 raffles and a silent auction for desserts. MAY 18 FUNDRAISER AT PINK HOUSE: From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pink House, on Front Street across from the park, there will be 16 seats available. Eileen’s Dementia Avengers team is hosting the fundraiser with proceeds to be given to the Alzheimer’s Association’s The Longest Day, Michigan chapter. MAY 18 THIRD ANNUAL “DANCIN’ IN THE STREET” BLOCK PARTY: From 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. in downtown San Souci, Harsen’s Island, three alternating bands will entertain for dancing. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.: “10 Beach Drive, ” sponsored by Robert Crosby ALL; From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Meldrum Brothers Band, sponsored by Harsen’s Island Lions Club; From 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Los Gringos, sponsored by Motor City LLC and Dawgs Fertilizer Plus. Food available at the San Souci Bar, Island Grind, Jane’s San Souci Market and Harsen’s Island museum, plus Seafood Boil. Bringing chairs and coolers is suggested. NBIC CONCERT MAY 19: Performing since 1966, the New Baltimore Interfaith Choir will present a program titled, “Faith, Family and Freedom” at 2 p.m. at Lighthouse Bible Church, 52260 Washington, in Our Town. Sandra Vallee Fearn is the accompanist. Soloists from the choir will sing in several selections, with many songs that the audience will want to sing along. Children will be invited to sing too. VFW Post 7573 Color Guard will post and retire the colors. An uplifting afternoon, mark the calendar and be there.

CHS SUMMER EVENTS: The Chesterfield Historical Society invites readers and friends to their Sugarbush Road grounds on the following dates: June 1-2, to meet the Lac Ste. Claire Voyageurs and 1750s-era French fur traders; July 13: World War II reenactment with the Michigan Technical and History Society, with Allied and Axis encampments and displays. Aug. 10-11: Vietnam-era reenactment; Sept. 14: Chesterfield Historical Society Heritage Days with hands-on activities and games. That day, “Kids Tent,” candle making, rope-making, corn grinding, scavenger hunt and craft show, events. Mark the calendar for all of the events, as each is a learning experience.

JUNE 23-JULY 14 IRA NATURE HEROES PROGRAM: For children ages 5 to 8 years, on Sundays, at 10 a.m., it is a four-week program that salutes nature and the environment. Amber Trombley is the leader with assistance Reid Hiltunen, who will be sure that children are educated about nature and their surroundings. JUNE 14 NB RECREATION DEPARTMENT BOAT CRUISE: A senior citizen boat cruise on the Detroit River on Flag Day is planned. Registration must be at the Aquatic Center, 52401 Ashley, at $70 a person. The day will include transportation, with departure at 9:30 a.m. from Maynard “Red” Aurand Memorial Park on 24 Mile. On the ship, Detroit Princess, enjoy a buffet and Motown music. MARK THE CALENDAR: ABHS 1974 class 50th reunion, July 13, will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Perch Festival, 9764 Dixie, in Anchorville. Look for the red and white balloons. Wear red!
