Popcaan is hoping to revitalise the entertainment landscape in his native St Thomas through the inaugural staging of Unruly Fest: Popcaan & Friends in Concert.

The show is scheduled to unfold at Lyssons Park on December 22.

"He's been wanting to do this for a while now especially in his hometown, so it has been a long time coming," event coordinator Sharon Williams told THE STAR. "When you look at St Thomas, it's really a travesty because it once had more shows, so he wants to bring back a signature event to the parish."

St Thomas is home to entertainment events like Reggae Life Jamaica Music Festival, Makka Pro Surfing Competition and the former East Fest Jamaica show.

The latter, which was once hailed as St Thomas' primary stage show event, was founded by the Morgan family at the turn of the new millennium.

East Fest was usually held in December at Good Year Oval in Morant Bay and was last staged in 2007.

Capleton booked

Williams was tight-lipped about the line-up for Unruly Fest, but confirmed that Capleton is booked for the event.

"We have couple people on it. I wouldn't want to say now who exactly, but Popcaan is very excited about it," she said. "Just know it'll be a concert, not a dancehall show or the customary thing."

While this will mark the first time the 'Unruly Boss' is orchestrating a show, he is no stranger to executing other events.

Popcaan, given name Andrae Sutherland, hosted a back-to-school community treat and fun day in Rudolph Elder Park in Morant Bay in August.

Meanwhile, the deejay has been making the rounds in Europe and Canada since dropping his sophomore album, Forever, in July.

He is scheduled to commence the Forever Tour in the United Kingdom on December 6.
