21st Century coach Rodney Williams was certain that Johnell Davis would make the Indiana Junior All-Star team.
If he didn’t, Williams said “there was going to have to be an investigation.”
No investigation is required.
Davis, a 6-foot-4 guard, was selected for the Red group. Chesterton’s Jake Wadding, a 6-4 forward, also will play for the Red.
The Red group will play on June 5 against the Indiana Senior All-Stars at a site to be determined.
Davis, who has offers from Florida Atlantic, Northern Illinois and Kent State, averaged 24.9 points and 9.3 rebounds last season.
Davis was called to the office Wednesday. He said he thought he was in trouble. Instead, he found out he was picked for the team.
“This is great,” Davis said of being selected. “One of my goals at the beginning of the year was to make the team.”
Wadding, who helped Chesterton win its first sectional title since 1987, averaged 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals.
Wadding said it’s a “big accomplishment for me. I want to thank my teammates for being there for me and helping me achieve this honor.”
Other players in the Red group are Culver Academy’s Deontae Craig, Homestead’s Zak Krueger and Hamilton Southeastern’s Chris Grubbs and Mabor Majak.
Core group players, who will participate in all three junior all-star games, are Culver’s Trey Galloway, Mishawaka Marian’s Jaden Ivey, Bloomington South’s Anthony Leal, Westview’s Charlie Yoder and Dre Davis and Lawrence Central’s Nijel Pack.
White group players are Bedford North Lawrence’s Brayton Bailey, Lafayette Central Catholic’s Carson Barrett, Jeffersonville’s Tre Coleman, Crispus Attuck’s SinCere McMahon, Northwestern’s Tayson Parker and Lawrence North’s Tony Perkins.
Blue group players are Heritage Hills’ Murray Becher, New Palestine’s Maximus Gizzi, Bloomington South’s Noah Jager, Evansville Bosse’s Kiyron Powell, Decatur Central’s Kenny Tracy and Greensburg’s Andrew Welage.
