Oklahoma State’s football team couldn’t stop Baylor’s big offensive plays and had critical turnovers on both ends of the field in a 45-27 loss to the Bears on Homecoming at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater.

Baylor had five offensive plays go for at least 44 yards, and OSU quarterback Spencer Sanders turned the ball over three times, one of which led directly to a Bears touchdown, and OSU suffered their second straight loss.

OSU got the ball first and punted after three downs and a penalty.

Baylor then took just three plays to score, with runs of 20 and 18, then a 24-yard touchdown run by John Lovett up the middle to make it 7-0 Bears with 12:06 to play in the first quarter.

The Cowboys responded with a 13-play, 78-yard drive, taking up 5:30 on the clock, with Spencer Sanders lobbing a 5-yard touchdown pass to Jordan McCray in the back of the end zone to make it 7-6 Baylor.

Sanders was 18-for-32 passing for 157 yards with a touchdown and interception.

The extra point by Matt Ammendola was blocked and the Bears retained the lead with 6:37 to play in the first quarter.

Baylor continued to power through the middle of the OSU defense, with JaMycal Hasty running for 24 yards, but at the end of the run he was stripped by Malcolm Rodriguez, who recovered at the OSU 24-yard line.

The Cowboys couldn’t capitalize on the turnover, however and had to punt.

Both teams exchanged two punts after the fumble, then OSU marched 46 yards in 8 plays, helped by a targeting penalty and pass interference penalty on Baylor.

Chuba Hubbard scored on a 2-yard touchdown run to give the Cowboys a 13-7 lead with 4:15 to play in the first half.

Baylor responded with a big play, as Brewer passed to Hasty, who went 74 yards for an apparent touchdown.

The Bears were called for holding on the play, though, and it backed Baylor up to the OSU 20-yard line.

Baylor settled for a 28-yard field goal from John Mayers to cut the OSU lead to 13-10 with 1:32 to play in the first half.

OSU moved the ball into scoring position as the half was ending, but Sanders was intercepted on a lob pass into the end zone by Kalon Barnes and returned to the Baylor 18-yard line.

The Cowboys forced a Baylor punt on the opening possession of the second half, then scored on their opening possession of the half.

OSU was set to punt when Tom Hutton passed to Dayton Metcalf on a fake punt for a gain of 20 yards and a first down.

After a 29-yard pass from Sanders to Tylan Wallace, Chuba Hubbard scored on a 3-yard touchdown run to give OSU a 20-10 lead with 9:35 to play in the third quarter.

Hubbard had 171 yards rushing on 32 carries and two touchdowns.

It took Baylor just two plays to respond.

Brewer passed to Tyquan Thornton for a gain of 78 yards to the OSU 5-yard line.

Hasty scored on a run on the next play to cut the Cowboys’ lead to 20-17 with 8:42 to play in the third quarter.

Baylor forced an OSU punt, then marched to the go-ahead score, going 93 yards in six plays, with Brewer passing over the middle to Josh Fleeks, who sprinted 64 yards for the touchdown to give the Bears a 24-20 lead with 2:36 to play in the third quarter.

Brewer was 13-for-17 passing for 312 yards.

OSU got the ball at their own 7-yard line early in the 4th quarter and went 93 yards in five plays, with L.D. Brown racing 68 yards for a touchdown after breaking a pair of tackle attempts, and the Cowboys led again 27-24 with 12:55 to play.

Baylor answered with a 7-play, 75-yard drive, with Brewer rolling out and keeping for a 2-yard touchdown run to give the Bears a 31-27 lead with 9:04 to play.

On the next possession, OSU faced a third down and Sanders fumbled, stripped of the ball by Chidi Ogbonnaya, and Terrel Bernard scooped it up and ran it back 19 yards for the touchdown to give Baylor a 38-27 lead with 8 minutes left.

OSU got into Baylor territory on the ensuing possession, but on 4th and 4 from the Bears’ 27-yard line Sanders threw incomplete deep.

Baylor then scored on the next play, with Hasty going 73 yards for a touchdown run to make it 45-27 Bears with 5:13 to play.

Hasty had 146 yards rushing on just 16 carries and two touchdowns.

The Cowboys turned the ball over again on the next possession, with Sanders fumbling again, and Jordan Williams recovering.

Baylor ran out the clock from there to win in Stillwater for just the second time in the last 14 meetings.

OSU was wearing bright orange helmets, with the old style OSU brand logo, a tribute to the teams of the 1970s on Homecoming.

The Cowboys fall to 4-3 on the season, 1-3 in Big 12 play.

OSU plays at Iowa State next Saturday at 2:30 pm.
