In a press release, the president-elect's team said Dr. Jill Jim, of the Navajo Nation, will help the incoming administration tackle the pandemic.
"[Dr. Jim's] leadership has been essential to the COVID-19 response on the Navajo Nation, as the Navajo Department of Health is authorized to respond to the declared public health emergency," the Biden-Harris transition team press release said.
According to the Biden-Harris transition team website, the COVID-19 advisory board is a "team of leading public health experts helping President-elect Biden, Vice President-elect Harris, and the transition prepare to implement a robust and aggressive response to contain the virus."
Dr. Jim was appointed by Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez in January 2020 to run the tribal nation's Department of Health.
In a statement President Nez said, “Dr. Jim’s extensive public health experience and expertise has been a major benefit for the Navajo Nation throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and now she will serve on a much broader level to help fight this modern-day monster throughout the country."
Dr. Jim holds a doctorate and two masters degrees from the University of Utah, including a bachelors degree from Northern Arizona University.
Dr. Jim said in a press release, “I am proud to serve as a member of the Biden-Harris Transition COVID-19 Advisory Board. I look forward to working with fellow members of the advisory board to help prepare an urgent, robust, and professional response to the global public health crisis, for President-elect Biden to lead with on day one."
