Tropical Storm Chanthu made landfall in Kyushu on Friday evening, the weather agency said, warning of heavy rain, landslides and high waves.

The storm is forecast to move east and bring torrential rain and strong winds to western and eastern Japan through the weekend, the Meteorological Agency said.

West Japan Railway Co. on Friday suspended shinkansen services between Hiroshima and Hakata, and some bullet trains between Hiroshima and Shin-Osaka.

In the 24 hours through Saturday evening, rainfall of up to 300 millimeters is forecast for the Shikoku region, up to 250 mm in the Tokai region and up to 200 mm in regions around Tokyo and Osaka.
