New Delhi: India's passport ranking has taken a hit, dropping to 148th position out of 199 countries in the Nomad Capitalist Passport Index 2025. This is a slip from its 147th position last year, reported Scroll.

The Nomad Capitalist Passport Index 2025, released on Thursday, evaluates the strength of passports worldwide based on five key parameters: visa-free travel (50%), taxation (20%), global perception (10%), dual citizenship (10%), and personal freedom (10%). India ranked 148th out of 199 countries, scoring 47.5 points, and shared this position with Comoros. This represents a drop from the 147th position last year, when India was tied with Mozambique.

Ireland has been crowned the world's strongest passport in 2025, according to the Nomad Capitalist Passport Index. This top ranking is attributed to the unique privileges enjoyed by Irish citizens, who have the right to live and work freely not only across the European Union but also in the United Kingdom.

Following Ireland's top ranking, Switzerland secured the second position, trailed by Greece, Portugal, Malta, Italy, Luxembourg, Finland, Norway, the UAE, New Zealand, and Iceland. The United States tied with San Marino at 45th. Conversely, Pakistan, Iraq, Eritrea, Yemen, and Afghanistan ranked lowest, occupying positions 195 to 199.

Meanwhile, India's ranking on the Henley Passport Index dropped from 80th to 85th in January, based on an assessment of International Air Transport Association data.
