Susanna Reid has been helping to wake up the nation each morning for decades now, having first fronted BBC Breakfast alongside Bill Turnbull and Charlie Stayt before moving on to rival channel ITV, starring alongside Ben Shephard, Piers Morgan, Richard Madeley, and Ed Balls, to name a few.

Back in 1996, as a budding reporter and producer, Susanna stumbled into her first on-screen role with BBC News 24 by sheer chance after the usual presenter failed to show up one night, leaving the TV star to take over the role for the hour slot.

Susanna was three months pregnant with her first child at the time, but that didn't prevent her from landing her dream job after being a successful stand-in.

Before taking up her role with ITV in 2014, where she remains a fan favourite to this day, Susanna also found fame hosting shows such as Sunday Morning Live on BBC One from 2010 to 2011.

In 2013, she also finished second in the 11th series of Strictly Come Dancing alongside dance partner Kevin Clifton.

16-year romance breakdown

Susanna Reid and journalist Dominic Cotton announced they were calling time on their 16-year partnership shortly after participating in Strictly Come Dancing, where she was teamed up with pro dancer Kevin Clifton.

The newsreader has always maintained that the BBC show had nothing to do with their split but did admit it was a "parallel universe of sequins and stardust."

She told the Mirror: "Over 16 years, you're going to change a bit, both of you. Would it have happened anyway? I don't know. I don't analyse it."

The couple, who never married, continued co-parenting their three boys, Sam, 23, Finn, 21, and Jack, 20, while living under the same roof for some time after their split.

Speaking to The Sun's Fabulous magazine at the time, she explained: "We still get on so well. Dom is still such a hands-on dad, and we really co-parent.

"So, we live separately but together and happily in the same house. I'm not saying everybody can do it and I definitely think people are surprised that we can do it this way."

Ordered to take time off air

In 2014, while Susanna was parting ways from Dominic and in talks with ITV about fronting their new show Good Morning Britain after DayBreak was axed, she was ordered to "take time off" from her news role at BBC Breakfast.

Susanna's absence from the red sofa did not go unnoticed, with a source claiming to The Mirror that it was understood she had been struggling to cope after breaking up with her children's father.

A source claimed at the time: "Everyone here is really worried about Susanna in what is clearly a very testing time for her. The BBC Breakfast couch is a tough job, and you have to be in the right frame of mind."

The mum-of-three was single for some years after her split from Dominic. Four years after the dust had settled, the TV star was dating Crystal Palace's chairman Steve Parish.

They did not shy away from airing their newly found romance and were often seen cosying up to one another while watching the Premier League team.

But after a few months of dating, a source revealed to The Sun that their relationship hadn't worked out. They said: "It's very sad, but they just couldn't make it work.

"They both work extremely hard, and there wasn't enough time for romance."

The couple believed to have been introduced to one another by Susanna's co-anchor at the time, Piers Morgan, also bonded over their shared love of Crystal Palace and even went on a romantic mini-break in Paris in 2018.

Health battle

Susanna has always been open about her condition

Susanna never shies away from discussing her incurable health condition that was once "triggered" during a live episode of Good Morning Britain.

The 54-year-old TV presenter has confirmed that she suffers from tinnitus, which causes ringing or buzzing sounds that echo in a person's head or ears.

Back in 2015, Susanna opened up about her health battle, saying she'd suffered the noise for about a decade before she became "distressed" over "never hearing silence again" and decided to engage with specialists.

In 2024, Jamie Laing appeared on GMB to raise awareness about the condition when producers decided to play the sound to show viewers what it was really like for those who suffer.

As the noise began to chime around the studio, Susanna stated: "Mine I feel is quite low-level, and I was saying earlier to the viewers, my advice is to tune out of it."

After listening to the sound, she added: "It's really interesting, the ringing sound we played just now, that triggered it now in my ears. Now I can hear it again because you have to make a conscious effort to tune it out, so actually reminding myself of it…"

Never wanted to marry

Although Susanna prefers to keep her private life quiet, and it is thought the TV personality is currently single, she has always maintained that she is in no hurry to marry.

Despite being in a relationship with Dominic for nearly two decades, she has never walked down the aisle and revealed on GMB in the past that this was down to "personal choice."

The newsreader explained in 2021: "It was a personal choice. It's a bit of an old-fashioned idea that children are 'illegitimate' if you're not married. Children are legitimate, whether you're married or not."

At the time, she also told The Sun: "I've never wanted [marriage]. I've never fantasised about the big day. It was never my ambition to be married. I'm very, very happy at the moment, but I don't want to be married.

"No, no, no, I think the focus should be on the relationship."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1, from 6am.
